Sify Infinit Spaces, a subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed Sify Technologies, has started construction on an 50MW AI Edge Data Center and an Open Cable Landing Station in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh, Inida.

Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh laid the foundation stone for the state’s first 50-MW AI Edge Data Centre and Open Cable Landing Station at Rushikonda, Visakhapatnam on 12 October, 2025.

The AI Edge Data Center is expected to cost Rs 1,500-crore (approximately $170 million), to be built in two phases on 3.6 acres in the Rushikonda–Madhurawada IT Park. The AI Edge Data Center will connect via an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) substation and will have at least two diverse fibre networks, providing carrier-neutral redundancy and capacity for hyperscale expansion.

The facility aims to enhance India’s digital infrastructure by enabling low-latency AI processing, acting as a strategic submarine cable landing point, connecting India with Southeast Asia countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and Thailand, improving network resilience and diversification in addition to existing key landing points in Mumbai and Chennai.

Sify operates more than a dozen data centers across India, including Chennai, Lucknow, Noida, Mumbai, Bangalore/Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, totaling around 200MW. The company is also reportedly set to develop a 500MW site on 25 acres in the Paradesipalem area of Vizag.

The project is expected to boost innovation, employment, and investment in the state, positioning Visakhapatnam as a key digital gateway on India’s eastern coast. Sify Chairman Raju Vegesna highlighted the commitment to expanding India’s digital economy and AI innovation. This development marks a significant milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s digital growth and technological self-reliance.

The Andhra Pradesh government has been aggressively pushing to develop Vizag into a major technology hub.

In addition to Sify's AI data centers in Vizag, the Andhra Prades government has allotted 130 acres of land to Adani Group for a 200MW data centre, 480 acres of land to Google for its AI hub in Vizag.

The Google AI hub in Vizag will include a purpose-built data center campus and a new international subsea gateway, including multiple international subsea cables to land in Visakhapatnam on India’s eastern coast.

Meta's Waterworth subsea cable is expected to land in Vizaq and Mumbai.
