The Le Vasa Cable is defacto a branch connecting American Samoa with the trunk of the Bulikula cable, part of Google's Pacific Connect initiative, creating a vital digital link between American Samoa, Fiji, and French Polynesia.
Named "Le Vasa," meaning "The Ocean" or "The Vast Sea," the cable carries deep cultural significance. It transforms the ancient highway of Pacific voyaging into a modern conduit for information, innovation, and opportunity.
In January 2026, American Samoa Government and Google signed a landmark partnership agreement for American Samoa to participate in Google's Pacific Connect initiative and build the Le Vasa Cable.
The American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA) serves as the project's owner, operator, and coordinator. ASTCA manages the cable’s landing points, integrate it with local infrastructure, and coordinate with global partners.
The total cost of the Le Vasa Cable is US$45 million, with US$15 million funded through the American Rescue Plan Act.
In July 2026, ASTCA contracted with DXN Limited (DXN), a prefabricated modular data center specialist, for a prefabricated modular cable landing station that incorporates critical power; cooling, fire detection, and suppression systems, standby generation and supporting infrastructure. The contract valued at approximately AUD 1 million.
