India, October 14, 2009 - Tata Communications, a leading provider of a new world of communications, today announced that it will start delivering capacity into Australia via the privately owned PIPE Pacific 1 (PPC-1) cable system.
The PPC-1 is a new two-fiber-pair cable system connecting the US territory of Guam to Sydney, Australia. The cable system spans 6,900 km and can provide up to 2.56 Terabits per second of capacity to the rapidly growing Australian market. The PPC-1 cable system will be Australia's first carrier-neutral cable to offer city-to-city capacity, overcoming the need for expensive backhaul connections into Sydney.
Tata Communications will connect the PPC-1 cable system with the TGN-IA cable system at Piti Cable Landing Station in Guam, and offer onward connections via the TGN-Pacific and the TGN-Intra Asia to link Australia with the United States and Asia and worldwide.
