The TPC-5 Submarine Cable Network (TPC-5 CN) is the first self-healing ring transpacific optic fiber submarine cable system. The TPC-5 submarine cables consist of two fiber pairs, form a four-fiber-ring automatic protection switching network. Each fiber pair of the TPC-5 CN has a design capacity of 5 Gbps. The entire TPC-5 ring network was ready for service on December 31, 1996.
