The PC-1 Network
The Pacific Crossing PC-1 trans-Pacific network consists of four fiber-pairs organized in four segments connecting each of the landing stations near major metropolitan areas in the U.S. and Japan: Harbour Pointe, Washington (near Seattle); Grover Beach, California (between San Francisco and Los Angeles); Ajigaura, Japan (near Tokyo); and Shima, Japan (near Osaka and Nagoya).
The PC-1 network is connected seamlessly to backhaul providers providing diverse routes and competitive pricing. Facilities in the U.S. have multiple, independent backhaul providers collocated in the cable landing stations that offer route-diverse services to the major carrier inter-exchange centers in California and Washington. The facilities in Japan are fully integrated with NTT Communications’ extensive domestic network and facilities, providing connectivity to all major Japanese cities and facilities and ready interconnection to other sub-sea networks serving Asia.
Key features of the PC-1 Network:
High Availability – The PC-1 subsea network offers five 9’s availability with a full ring architecture that is fully redundant and provides on-net alternate path restoration capability in the event of system disruptions.
Low Latency – The PC-1 network is extremely low latency, with its North route from Ajigaura to Seattle offering the lowest latency across the Pacific (80ms RTD).
High Capacity – Recent upgrades till late 2010 have taken PC-1’s lit linear transmission capacity to more than 1.4 terabits trans-Pacific and a further upgrade will increase this to 1.8 terabits during 2011, to meet the growing demands on trans-Pacific capacity for broadband network services for carriers, ISP’s and major enterprises.
Global Monitoring and Maintenance – Strategic operational relationships with Alcatel-Lucent, TE SubCom, Global Crossing’s Global Network Operations Center (GNOC) and Marubeni Access Solutions Inc. enable around-the-clock wet and dry maintenance, network monitoring, operations and support for the PC-1 network and landing stations to ensure high reliability and availability.
24x7 Customer Support – Pacific Crossing’s NOC provides 24x7 services and support for PC-1 network.
