NCP Consortium Announces the Signing of C&MA and Supply Contract

According to NCP Consortium, Major Asia Pacific Telecommunication Carriers Collaborate to build ‘New Cross Pacific’, the Next Generation Internet Highway of Trans Pacific, ‘New Cross Pacific’ to provide multifold increase in Trans Pacific capacity.

Agreements were signed today in Busan to build the New Cross Pacific (NCP) cable network, a multi-terabit submarine cable system providing direct fiber connectivity to five countries/regions in Asia Pacific.

NCP will directly connect Mainland China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the U.S.A., to meet rising demands and complement existing cable systems through increased capacity and diversity.

Participants in the NCP consortium signed the Construction and Maintenance Agreement along with the Supply Contract, which is assumed to come into force in November 2014 and to be completed in 2^nd half of 2017.

The project represents several hundreds million dollar (U.S.) investment by the consortium to deliver efficient, high-bandwidth, direct connections for customer traffic. Formal agreements were signed by Chunghwa Telecom, KT Corporation, Chinese carriers, and an US based company on 21^th October 2014.

NCP will bring significant increase in Asian telecommunications capacity to meet the insatiable requirements caused by continuous growth in the Internet and Mobile market.

The design capacity of NCP will be up to 80 Tbps in total by adopting 100 giga-bit-per second (Gbps) optical transmission technology.  As the state-of-the art system, the digital coherent detection and OADM (optical add-drop multiplexing) technologies will be applied, allowing the system to be future proof for more than 100Gbps technology upgrades to meet dynamic traffic requirements.

NCP is expected to increase survivability and avoid potentially hazardous zones through intelligent submarine routing.
