MYUS

The Malaysia-U.S. (MYUS) cable system is a submarine cable across the Pacific, connecting Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Guam and Oregan in the United States, with an expected cable length of 19,221 kilometers.

The MYUS cable system is developing by Hexa Capital Consultancy PLT (Hexa).

Hexa was established on April 18, 2019, in Malaysia, and was restructured into a Limited Liability Partnership on April 17, 2023. The focus of the partnership is to become an Independent Infrastructure Provider and to construct the MYUS Cable System.

In November 2023, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) awarded a feasibility study grant (approximately $1 million) to Hexa to support development of the MYUS submarine fiber optic cable system. USTDA’s support for the MYUS cable project advances the digital pillars of the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework.

Hexa has already selected Boston-based T Soja & Associates (TSA) to conduct the study, which provides Hexa with detailed plans to guide the project’s implementation.

The MYUS cable system is expected to be a 16-fiber-pair system, each with a minimum capacity of 15Tbps, with the following cable landing stations:

  • Sedili, Malaysia
  • Batu Hitam, Malaysia (optional)
  • Kuching, Malaysia  (optional)
  • Batam, Indonesia
  • Jakarta, Indonesia
  • Balik Papan, Indonesia (optional)
  • Davao, the Philippines
  • Guam, USA
  • Florence, Oregon, USA

According to Hexa, the initial capex set for the development of the MYUS cable project is approximately US$720million.

Hexa has appointed Alaska Communications as its U.S. Landing Party for the MYUS cable system. Alaska Communications owns and operates cable landing facilities in Florence, include the beach landing, front-haul fiber and cable landing station built in 2008 for the Alaska-Oregon Network (AKORN) which was commissioned in 2009.

The MYUS cable system is being planned with a ready for service date of mid-2028.
