Amazon's First Membership in a Submarine Cable Consortium

According to JUPITER Consortium, Amazon has participated in the JUPITER Consortium to build the new high-capacity transpacific submarine cable system, the JUPITER cable system which spans approximately 14,000 km and connects the Philippines, Japan,  and the US.

The JUPITER Consortium includes Amazon, Facebook, NTT Communications, PCCW Global, PLDT, and SoftBank.

Although there are news that Amazon has invested in its first submarine cable system, purchased capacity in Hawaiki submarine cable, it is the first time Amazon has a seat in an international submarine cable consortium.

OTT giants including Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Amazon has become major investors in global submarine cable systems. Will Alibaba be the next one to participate in a submarine cable consortium?
