E2A

The East Asia To North America (E2A) cable system is a 12500km submarine cable connecting major digital hubs in Asia and North America, with landings in Toucheng (Taiwan), Busan (South Korea), Hokaiido, Maruyama and Fukuoka(Japan), and Morro Bay (California, USA).

The E2A cable system features:

  • 12 fiber pairs (FP) delivering capacity of more than 192Tbps, or 16Tbps per fiber pair.
  • Open Cable System architecture, enabling seamless scalability and multi-operator connectivity
  • 18kV power technology, optimizing efficiency across all subsea infrastructure
  • Optimized latency to support next-generation computing applications and digital services

The E2A consortium comprises Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. (“CHT”), SK Broadband Co. Ltd. (“SKB”), SoftBank Corp. (“SoftBank”), and Verizon Business Global LLC (“Verizon”).

According to Taipei Times, CHT's investment in the E2A cable system is more than NT$4.6 billion (US$139.2 million).

The E2A consortium has selected Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) to build the state-of-the-art transpacific fiber optic network.

The E2A cable system amis to significantly enhance digital connectivity between Asia and North America, provide a robust backbone for AI applications, data centers, and cloud services, and ensure high-speed connectivity across the Pacific as well as intra-Asia.

The E2A cable system is scheduled to be ready for service (RFS) in the second half of 2028.
