The Bangladesh Private Cable System (BPCS) consists of a 1,300 km branch cable connecting Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh with the trunk of the UMO cable system which runs from Myanmar to Singapore.
The BPCS consortium comprises Summit Communications, CdNet Communications, and Metacore Subcom, each received licence to establish, maintain and operate submarine cables from the Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC) in September 2022.
The BPCS cable system consists of three fiber pairs, each supplying at least 15 Tbps of capacity. The project is expected to cost US$150 million.
In October 2024, the BPCS consortium contracted New Jersey-headquartered telecom consultancy Pioneer Consulting for project management, engineering, and quality assurance support of the branch cable for connectivity to Singapore. Pioneer Consulting also supported the BPCS consortium earlier on route assessment, due diligence, commissioning of the UMO cable system, supply contract formation, and purchasers’ representative management for the survey of the branch route.
The BPCS cable system is expected to go into service in the first quarter of 2026, to be the first private subsea cable connecting Bangladesh.
In addition to the BPCS cable system, in May 2024, CdNet Communications was awarded by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) a feasibility study grant to expand reliable internet connectivity across Bangladesh through the development of the Bangladesh International Submarine Cable (Bagha-1).
In December 2025, the BPCS consortium selected Nokia to supply SLTE for the project, scheduled to be activated in June 2026.
