AUG East

The Asia United Gateway East (AUG East) submarine cable system connects Singapore and Japan, with Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan, spanning a total distance of 8,900 km.

Targeted for completion by the third quarter of 2029, the 8,900 km high-capacity cable system will support the demand for more bandwidth across this route, enhancing digital connectivity in the region.

The AUG East consortium comprises Singtel, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, ARTERIA Networks, Chunghwa Telecom, DREAMLINE, Globe Telecom, Telekom Malaysia (TM) and Unified National Networks, chaired by Singtel.

The AUG East cable system is supplied by NEC.

The AUG East cable system features a high-count fibre pair system delivering unprecedented bandwidth capacity, using the latest submarine fibre optic technologies,

Global network traffic from AI applications and AI-enhanced applications is forecasted to exceed conventional application traffic by 2031, and organisations in the Asia-Pacific region now lead the world in terms of their willingness to invest in digital and generative AI technologies.

The AUG East cable has dual landing points in Taiwan, i.e., Wujie (in Yilan) and Dawu (in Taitung), similar with dual landing of SJC2 cable in Tanshui and Fangshan. Chunghwa Telecom has released that it has committed an investment of more than NT$2.4 billion (US$81.63 million) in the AUG East project.

The AUG East cable route traverses the western waters of the Philippines, differing from the APRICOT cable currently under construction, which runs through the eastern waters of the Philippines and reaches Indonesia and Singapore via the Java Sea and Celebes Sea. As the AUG East landing party in the Philippines, Globe is expected to land it in its Luna Cable Landing Station where hosts Asia Link Cable (ALC) as well.

TM will land AUG East at the TM Exchange in Kuala Sedili, Johor, where hosts Asia Link Cable (ALC), Candle, etc.

The AUG East cable system is scheduled to be ready for service in Q3, 2029.
