According to Equinix, Google has selected Equinix LA4 as its Los Angeles cable landing station (CLS) for the Curie subsea cable system. The Curie subsea cable system will land directly at the Equinix LA4 International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center located in El Segundo, Calif. The Curie cable is expected to be ready for service in 2019.
Named after physicist and chemist Marie Curie, the Curie cable system is Google's first private intercontinental subsea cable. Curie cable will be the first new subsea cable to land in Chile in almost 20 years, and will become the largest single data pipe connecting Chile.
Equinix LA4 is also the CLS for Pacific Light Cable Network (PLCN) directly connecting Los Angeles and Hong Kong with the shortest route. PLCN is jointly building by Google, Facebook and PLDC.
