The PPC-1 cable system consists of 2 optical fiber pairs between Cromer, Sydney and Piti, Guam, with a cable length of 6900 Km and branches to Papua New Guinea. The PPC-1 cable system takes advantage of the state-of-the-air technology, has a design capacity of 96 wavelengths (10 Gbps) on each fiber pair, for a total design capacity of 2.56 Tbps. The PPC-1 cable system was supported by a group of Australian ISPs and carriers looking for carrier neutral cable system between Australia and the US to decrease their cost on global traffic. The group of customers paid for the capacity when the PPC-1 cable system was under construction for the financing support on this project.  The PPC-1 cable system was formally completed and ready for service on October 8, 2009.
