Cinturion Corp Ltd. has executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement with Grid Telecom. Under the MOU, Grid Telecom will be the landing party partner in Greece for Cinturion’s TEAS submarine cable from India to Europe, and provides customers with open-access interconnection with leading edge data connectivity and international reach to Southeast Europe.

Cinturion’s TEAS – Trans Europe Asia System, is an advanced submarine and terrestrial network, enabling high-speed, resilient, and secure connections. TEAS system consists of two separate connections across the Mediterranean Sea, continuing with two paths inter-linking the Middle East, with multiple routes across the Arabian Peninsula, and a route through the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea. TEAS, the first new dual path system of its kind, provides geographically diverse routes enabling new services with its unique optical capabilities to support modern Data Center deployments, bringing broadband and low latency access to the European, Middle East and Indian markets.

Grid Telecom, established in January 2019, is a 100% subsidiary company of ADMIE, Greece’s Independent Power Transmission Operator – IPTO. Grid Telecom provides telecommunications services to national and international providers.  With a domestic fiber optic network exceeding 4,000 km, Grid Telecom currently offers diverse fiber connectivity between the island of Crete and the Greek mainland, in addition to its network infrastructure in Italy, the Balkans, and Central Europe, leveraging its position as a major, carrier-neutral hub in Europe. The expansion of Grid Telecom’s fiber optic network will exceed 6,000 km throughout Greece in the next five years, connecting islands with the core network.

Partnering with Cinturion in the implementation of the TEAS cable system, Grid Telecom will bring a new and diverse international route in the region, enhancing the strategic role of the island of Crete as an open access interconnection node in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans, and providing the most advanced, secure and innovative technologies to Southeast Europe through Greece, addressing the rising global demand for high quality international bandwidth.

Grid Telecom operates four subsea cables connecting the island of Crete with the mainland Greece. MINOAS-EAST and MINOAS-WEST connecting Crete with the Peloponnese region, and APOLLO-EAST and APOLLO-WEST between Heraklion in Crete and Pachi, Megara in the Attica region.

In addition to be the landing party in Greece for the TEAS cable system, Grid Telecom has partnered with Islalink to provide terrestrial backbone fiber extension for the IONIAN submarine cable linking Italy and Greece. The IONIAN submarine system will be extended with Grid Telecom’s optic fiber network from the landing point in Preveza to Athens and then on to Thessaloniki. Grid Telecom also signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to connect Greece and Egypt using submarine cable infrastructure.
