Ifriqya

The Ifriqiya submarine cable system is in fact the Tunisian branch of the PEACE cable system connecting Asia, Africa and Eruope.

The Ifriqiya submarine cable system lands at the Ain Meriem area of Bizerte, Tunisia, spanning 950 km from Bizerte to the main trunk of PEACE MED connecting Marseille, France, and Abu Talaat, Egypt.

The Ifriqiya submarine cable system has an overall capability of around 3 Tbps, to revolutionize data transmission rates between Tunisia and Europe and bolster telecommunications infrastructure, emphasizing its critical role in the advent of 5G services in Tunisia.

The Ifriqiya submarine cable system is owned and operated by Ooredoo Tunisia, supplied by HMN Tech, in a collaboration with PCCW Global and PEACE Cable.

The Ifriqiya submarine cable system was ready for on March 3, 2024.

There are now five submarine cable systems connecting Tunisa:

  • SEA-ME-WE 4, landing in Bizerte by Tunisie Télécom
  • Hannibal, landing in Kelibia by Tunisie Télécom
  • Trapani-Kelibia, landing in Kelibia by Tunisie Télécom.
  • Didon cable, landing in Kelibia by Orange and Ooredoo
  • Ifriqiya (PEACE MED), landing in Bizerte by Ooredoo
  • Medusa, landing in Bizerte, Orange
