According to Djibouti Telecom, the DARE1 cable landed in Mombasa, the great coast city of Kenya on Friday March 6th, 2020. The DARE1 Kenya landing marks it’s final stop, following its landing in Djibouti and Somalia earlier. Telkom Kenya hosted a ceremony for the DARE1 Kenya landing.

The DARE1 Kenya landing ceremonial event was thoroughly enjoyable with a great atmosphere in glorious weather! Representatives of DARE1 consortium, including Mr. Mohamed Ahmed, International Business Director of Djitouti Telecom, participated in the landing ceremony.

When completed, the DARE1 network will land across 3 countries and 4 cities, covering 5,000km and will have a capacity per wavelength of 100Gbps. This DARE1 project will bring much needed fibre optic to the region. DARE1 competed the landing in Mogadishu and Bossaso and Djitouti earlier, this was the last leg at Mombasa, Kenya.

DARE1 network is on schedule to be fully operational by June 2020. 

Dare 1 becomes the fifth undersea cable broadband infrastructure to link Kenya with the rest of the world after landing of SEACOM, The East African Marine Cable System (TEAMS), Eastern African Submarine Cable System (EASSy) and Lion2.

As the landing party in Kenya for DARE1 cable, Telkom Kenya also hosts and manages TEAMS, EASSy and LION2.
