Perth is a major location for submarine cables landing in Western Australia.
Currently, SEA-ME-WE 3 (SMW3) lands at the Perth Cable Landing Station.
In September 2007, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) made a declaration for a submarine cable protection zone off the coast of Perth, which
- extends 60 nautical miles (112km) off City Beach
- extends to a water depth of 2000 metres
- extends 1 nautical mile each side of the cable
Both SMW3 and Indigo cables ran through the Submarine Cable Protection Zone off Perth and land at the beach manholes at Floreat Beach.
