About SAT-2

The South Atlantic Telecommunications cable no.2 (SAT-2) is a 9,500 km submarine fibre optic cable  connecting Melkbosstrand in South Africa to Funchal in Madeira, Portugal. SAT-2 was launched in March 1993, with a design capacity of 560 Mbps (PDH), and was run by Telkom in South Africa. SAT-2 was decommissioned in January 2013.
