KVH has announced the offering of 10G and 100G Japan Backhaul Service solutions that connect the Shima Cable Landing Station, the Chikura Cable Landing Station and the Toyohashi Cable Landing Station with central Tokyo and Osaka through KVH’s Ethernet backbone network. All the services are available as of Dec. 2014.
With the evolution of sub-sea capacity moving to 100G levels, there is strong demand for high-speed connectivity from the major submarine landing stations in Japan, Shima, Chikura and Toyohashi, to central Tokyo and Osaka. KVH’s new Backhaul Service targets global service providers and carriers with network capacity requirements to connect their sub-sea capacity to these key metropolitan cities. With a simplified contractual process and pricing, KVH provides a one-stop solution for dedicated connectivity in Japan’s main metropolitan areas and provides customers with an alternative to using other major Japanese carriers.
These three cable landing stations connect to KVH’s Points of Presence for the KVH DCNet service. This allows global service providers and carriers to expand their network capacity from these three cable landing stations to 60 plus data centers and points of presence in the greater metropolitan areas of Tokyo and Osaka. Launched in June 2014, DCNet is a data center network service that connects 100 plus industry leading data centers in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United States.
The Chikura, Shima and Toyohashi Cable Landing Stations connect to the following submarine cable systems.
- Chikura Cable Landing Station: APCN-2, China-US CN, EAC-C2C, Southeast Asia Japan Cable (SJC), Unity.
- Shima Cable Landing Station: EAC-C2C, AJC, PC-1, Japan-US CN.
- Toyohashi Cable Landing Station: TGN-Pacific, TGN-IA
KVH will offer the Japan Backhaul Service in the form of short term and long term leases. The service is available as 10G, 100G Ethernet, with a LR interface. Service will be available initially as a linear point-to-point offering, and at a later date as a protected service.
