Chunghwa Telecom and other three mainland operators China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom have completed the works on the Kinmen-Xiamen submarine cable system which in turn will be ready for service on August 21, 2012. The Kinmen-Xiamen submarine cable system becomes the first cable system linking Taiwan and Mainland China.

 

The Kinmen-Xiamen submarine cable project was initiated by Chunghwa Telecom and China Telecom in early 2009 and approved by the authorities in September 2011 after the enrollment of China Mobile and China Unicom.

The Kinmen-Xiamen cable system has a design capacity of 9.6 TBps, is a non-repeater submarine cable system, includes two cables over diverse routes,  one of 9.7 km beween Guningtou in Kinmen Island and Dadeng Island in Xiamen and the other of 11 km between Lake Ci in Kinmen Island and Guanyin Mounta in Xiamen

Though ready for service on August 21, it is pending for final approval from the governmental authorities to put the Kinmen-Xiamen submarine cable system into live service.
