China Telecom Adds a New PoP in Amsterdam

According to Capacity, China Telecom has expanded its network coverage in Europe through a new PoP in Telecity’s AMS 5 data centre in Amsterdam. According to China Telecom Global, China Telecom has established overseas subsidiaries or representative offices in 25 countries and regions, operates an extensive global network covering more than 40 overseas PoPs via high-speed terrestrial cables and submarine cables, with a total international transmission capacity of approximately 8000Gbps and international internet connection bandwidth of more than 2400Gbps.

The Chinese operator said it will use extensive connectivity options in Amsterdam, including the Amsterdam internet exchange AMS-IX, in addition to access to Telecity's international customer base to extend its services into Europe.

It already has capabilities in Europe through Telecity's facilities in London, Stockholm and Milan, with the expansion in Amsterdam expected to meet extended connectivity demands in Europe.

Increasing demand is being driven by an uptake in networking services by enterprise clients, and China Telecom will enable Telecity's customers to enjoy the widest connectivity and peering options from the facility.

"With our newly added PoP in Amsterdam being a hub of intercontinental links, this strategic collaboration with Telecity will play a pivotal role in offering our Euro-Asia network solutions and hosting services," Charlie Cao, managing director at China Telecom Europe.

"This will significantly enhance our data transmission and delivery capabilities. We have always been impressed with Telecity's connectivity options and their very personal approach to doing business."

By accessing AMS-IX, one of the most connected internet exchanges worldwide, China Telecom will reach more potential IP-based customers. China Telecom runs two IP backbone networks, ChinaNet AS4134 and CN2 AS4809, offering differentiated services. ChinaNet AS4134 serves for consumer customers, while CN2 AS4809 is an MPLS-enabled IP backbone network and focuses on serving enterprise customers and offering global IP transit service. According to Renesys, China Telecom ranks as one of the Top 13 Internet Service Providers worldwide.
